94. You’ll Be Missed, Roger Scruton

A couple days ago, a genius, philosopher, and one of my personal inspirations passed away. Roger Scruton has done yeoman’s work answering the Modernism and Postmodernism that has set out to define our time.

“Art once made a cult of beauty. Now we have a cult of ugliness instead. This has made art into an elaborate joke, one which by now has ceased to be funny.”

— Roger Scruton

He is a truly wonderful thinker, and today I wanted to commemorate him and explain why I am such a fan of his work as well as why I am persuaded by his philosophy.

These three reasons we’ll discuss today show why his contributions and the spirit of his work will be missed.

  • His defense of Conservatism and conservatism
  • His answer to the Modernists and Postmodernists
  • His understanding of and ability to describe beauty
