Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.
-Stephen Hawking
No one seems more adaptable than Stephen Hawking. He changed the entire scope and course of his life due to his disease, but it never held him back because he changed his tactics rather than his goals.
To adapt to change is to be able to understand the change, then be able to capitalize on it. Machiavelli would say that it is when one understands the tides of Fortune, and can use their Virtue to tame Fortune in their favor. Hawking really found a way to do that despite his disability and became one of the world’s leading thinkers.
