“Great Minds Discuss Ideas; Average Minds Discuss Events; Small Minds Discuss People.”
This quote is often attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt, but its origins are unclear. The truth in it is indisputable, however. As we look around us, it is apparent that the small minds talk about people, while great minds talk about ideas.
This doesn’t mean that those who discuss ideas are always right or that those who discuss people are always wrong in their assessment- rather it is noble to endeavor and wish to understand ideas. We look to cultural figures and what is going on around them as they attempt to talk about ideas instead of people.
