Wise words from a wise man. I think the other problem with excuses is that they are often a lie told to oneself, which can have harmful effects should they come to believe their own lies. Lying to oneself distorts reality and hurts one's ability to act freely and within reality. To be honest with others is virtuous, but to be honest with oneself is truly righteous.

When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion. -Dale Carnegie This has become readily apparent in today's society when almost every decision is posted on social media to be scrutinized and the internet allows for mistakes to be instantaneously recorded into history. People act emotionally, then... Continue Reading →

QUOTE: Hippocrates
With the onset of the opioid epidemic, one that is not new but rather resurfacing, it seems as though our society has forgotten this concept. We should seek to heal the spirit first through comforting and uplifting people, but we simply write a prescription for a useless pill and send them on their way. Evidence shows that not only do opioids not cure pain, but they don't treat it either.
We need to heal the body in conjunction with the mind and soul to heal the entirety of the individual.

QUOTE: John Paul II
This idea isn't new to Pope John Paul II, rather it even appears in Aristotle's Politics. The idea is that the individual must govern oneself, and become an adult who can govern a household, or family. That is how societies are built, from the bottom up, not the top down.

QUOTE: Stephen Hawking
Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change. -Stephen Hawking No one seems more adaptable than Stephen Hawking. He changed the entire scope and course of his life due to his disease, but it never held him back because he changed his tactics rather than his goals. To adapt to change is to be able...
