So, I actually don’t agree with this quote all the time. I think for the majority of human interaction, one should simply seek to walk alongside others and experience life with them as a friend. Even when serving someone or mentoring him, the goal is to walk along with him through life as a guide.
However, I believe there are times when people have to step up as leaders or fall in line as followers. In emergency situations, there has to be order and so there must be a leader and followers. If everyone walked next to each other in an evacuation, no one would get out. There has to be someone organizing people and giving direction to facilitate the evacuation.
Overall, this quote is true. That is what we want out of interactions with each other: to feel human by having another person understand us. It’s natural.
